Discover Charlotte Homes for Sale

As one of America's fastest-growing cities, Charlotte has a lot of diverse options for people looking to buy a home. Charlotte homes for sale range from affordable, midcentury houses to high-end, high-rise condos. You can live close to Uptown, or you can commute from a suburb on Lake Norman. You can enjoy a quiet, family-focused neighborhood, or live in one of Charlotte's funkier bohemian enclaves. Charlotte is a city that welcomes everyone, so you can be sure to find a place that's right for you!

Charlotte Neighborhoods

Uptown Charlotte, sometimes called Center City, is Charlotte's equivalent to a downtown area. Why is it called Uptown? Because, unlike most city centers, it's located on top of a hill! Uptown is a very walkable business district where most of the city's jobs are. If you want to live a short walk away from where you work, one of Uptown's many high-rise condos would be perfect for you.

However, many people who want to own a detached family home choose to live in one of the neighborhoods near Uptown. Communities like Cherry, Dilworth, and the historic South End offer a range of options, from quiet brick houses to trendy condos, without the prices and pressures of Uptown living. Similarly, Elizabeth and Wesley Heights offer more eclectic, up-and-coming communities with a short commute to Uptown.

Every city has its bohemian enclaves, and Charlotte is no exception. NoDa (North Davidson), also known as the Arts District, is Charlotte's main cultural hub, and offers a mixture of detached homes, townhomes, and low-rise condo buildings. Meanwhile, Plaza Midwood has a large assortment of unique shops and restaurants, as well as a variety of historic cottages and elegant larger homes.

If you're looking for a higher-end home in a nice neighborhood, you should start your search in Eastover or Myers Park, where you'll find some of the nicest homes for sale in Charlotte. South Park is another upscale neighborhood, organized around the largest shopping center in the Carolinas.

Living Outside Charlotte

If you're willing to trade a daily commute for more gorgeous surroundings, you can look at homes for sale in suburbs like Davidson or Mooresville, which are on the shore of beautiful Lake Norman. There are also some uniquely attractive communities, like Tega Cay, on Lake Wylie in South Carolina.

Finally, many people choose to live in other communities outside Charlotte, especially if they don't intend to work in the city. Smaller cities like Monroe, Concord, and Harrisburg offer a small-town feel, while still providing access to the city whenever you want it. Meanwhile, communities like Fort Mill and Rock Hill are on the other side of the border, letting you take advantage of lower South Carolina property taxes and still work or play in Charlotte.

While these are some of our favorite places to live in and around Charlotte, there are many other options that may be perfectly suited to your needs as a buyer. Check out our full complement of community guides for in-depth information about where to find your new home!

Living in Charlotte, NC

Why are more and more people moving to Charlotte? Perhaps it's simple economics. The cost of living in Charlotte is low compared to other major U.S. cities, and there's no end of jobs, especially in the finance sector. With the "big three" of the Bank of America, Wells, and Red Ventures providing Charlotteans with plenty of jobs, Charlotte is a place where you can raise a family and be prosperous in an increasingly uncertain world.

But once people move to Charlotte, they discover a welcoming and vibrant city with plenty to do and to see. Charlotte is the place to go for amazing food—especially barbeque—and has a growing craft beer scene. It has multiple historic districts connected to the history of the American South, and a wide range of art galleries, giving you plenty of culture. And with a city-wide enthusiasm for basketball and NASCAR, there's always some exciting sporting event to go see.

Charlotte is known as a great place to raise a family, too, thanks in part to its many well-connected residential communities. With parks everywhere, good schools, and fun activities like Discovery place, Charlotte offers families everything they need to have a great time. And with both mountains and beaches only a few hours away, not to mention all the nearby lakes, Charlotte is a great starting point for any kind of family getaway you want.

Lastly, Charlotte is an active city. Charlotteans place a great emphasis on health, with plenty of fitness centers and yoga studios, and even the occasional farmers market. The city is connected by over 37 miles of greenway, ideal for jogging and biking, and there are another 150 miles currently under development. And Charlotte is home to an abundance of golf courses, which you can enjoy year-round in the city's famously mild climate. So you can expect to stay active, healthy, and thriving in Charlotte, even as you chow down on some of the best barbeque in the world!
